Permanent Citizens' Assembly for Internationals

Permanent Citizens' Assembly for Internationals

Citizens' assemblies have been used to deliberate on many topics, including in Aarhus. A citizens' assembly could be made to be representative of the Internationals living in the city. One of the benefits of citizens' assemblies is that its members after their term will often become more active in the political life.

Points

Elected officials are often not demographically representative of their constituencies. Citizens' assemblies can be constructed to be demographically representative based on different criteria such as gender, disability, income, age and educational background. This can help rebuild trust in politics if the outcome of the citizens' assemblies are being taken seriously by the politicians or given a mandate. In Ireland a citizens' assembly helped change the public opinion on abortion rights.
